My Stalkers, Part 1

One night a friend and I were chatting online about my inadvertent tendency to attract, well, crazies.  I’d just told her about a creepy stranger who’d found me on Yahoo Messenger and asked to chat, but wouldn’t tell me who he was.  After telling him several times that I wasn’t comfortable chatting with people I didn’t know, he asked for my friends’ addresses, and invited me to view his web-cam. Finally I just switched to “invisible to everyone” mode and modified my privacy preferences to avoid being found and contacted by potential weirdos.  I have children who use my computer. All I need is for them to accidentally stumble into some pedophile ne’er-do-well!

I love my Crazies, most of them.  They teach me as much about myself and life as I do them.  But the two in this particular conversation were no fun.  Well, they’re fun NOW, years later, when I can say that I lived to learn and laugh from the experiences.  However, if you’re an aspiring Crazy Magnet, I would suggest avoiding these particular nuts….

Part 1:

Stacey:       that is scary tho’….no doubt about it

KB:               Well, it wouldn’t be the first time I had a stalker!!!

Stacey:       really!!!!?????????
Stacey:       holy poooooopiness, K!

KB:               Yeah, when I was 19 and living on campus I had this guy stalking me for about 3 months

Stacey:       geeepers!

KB:               Yeah, it was pretty creepy.

Stacey:       don’t know why men do those kinds of things….sicko’s!!!!!!!!!!!! well…the thing is you never know what they’re going to do…YIKES!!!!

KB:               Yeah, it was so stupid, my fault that it started at all. The phone numbers in the dorm were all successive, and so he started calling one room after another saying, “Hi, my name is Joe,  I’m over 8 inches long when I’m hard, can I masturbate on the phone with you?”

KB:               All the girls just hung up on him or yelled at him and called him names and THEN hung up on him.

Stacey:       good grief!!
Stacey:       thats sick
Stacey:       gggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

KB:              Well, stupid 19 year old KB thought, maybe if we just let him do his thing he’ll leave us alone (we were going from room to room as he called us all)
KB:              So, when he got to MY number, I put him on speaker phone, and said, “sure, go ahead!” and sat there and let him do his thing, or pretend to…who really knows what he was doing?!  He’d ask disgusting, sexually explicit questions and I answered, sounding totally uninterested and bored, as though I were too busy playing gin rummy to really pay attention to him.

Stacey:       holy crap

KB:               Yeah.  After that he called me every evening, sometimes many times a day, often in the middle of the night while I was sleeping. He left notes on my message board that hung on my dorm door, knew my class schedule, where I went with friends, what I ate for lunch, my parents’ address and phone number…….

Stacey:       cripes….that’s bloody scary

KB:               Right??!!  I went to the campus police and they were no help. I went to the City police, they sent me back to the campus police.  The school wouldn’t let me change my phone number or move to a new dorm room.

Stacey:       what was wrong with their heads!!!!!!!??????

KB:                Finally, just before Christmas break, I told him that I was tired of his behavior, that I had asked him repeatedly to leave me alone, and if he didn’t stop I was borrowing my cousin’s gun over the break and bringing it back to school with me.  He got all upset and apologized and said he had thought we “had a thing” together.

KB:                !!!!!

Stacey:        crikey!!!!!!!!

KB:                I told him the only “thing” we had together was a potential lawsuit.
KB:                After that he left me alone.

Stacey:        thank heavens!!!  that was really scary, K.  you’re lucky he actually left you alone.  there really are some sickos out there!

KB:                 Yeah, and they all seem to gravitate to me!!!
